I recently had a chance to catch up with Michael and talk to him about what so far has been a very busy and succesful year. We talked about directing the movie, "Flicka 2", for 20th Century Fox, the release of his new album, "Rock On" and what the coming months have instore for him.
Fantastic! It was a wonderful shoot. Post production went very well. It’s a wrap. We are waiting for confirmation of the release date from 20th Century Fox. Please check md.com frequently for immediate updates on the release. Did you find it a different experience directing Flicka 2, rather than something which you and Janeen have written and developed yourselves? Did you find that it was easier working on Flicka 2 having had experience working with horses on Moondance Alexander? It was very helpful having worked on Moondance Alexander with the horses. We worked with same wrangler. It’s better working with someone you’ve worked with before. Knowing the horses are safe and well looked after. Flicka 2 is an adaptation of a well known book, how closely did you have to stick to the storyline or were you able to change things if you thought it would work better as a movie? Flicka 2 is not actually directly from one of the books but is more of a continuation from the first movie. Tim McGraw played Rob McLaughlin in Flicka 2 and Patrick Warburton plays Hank, Rob’s brother in Flicka 2, so it’s a continuation of the story. You were very much involved in the Moondance Alexander soundtrack, have you had as much input with the Flicka 2 soundtrack? I wrote and produced a few songs for the movie. “Never Forget You” from my new album, “Rock On”, is in the movie. It’s always fun working with Tom and Larry my brothers and we have a blast. A new song by Clint Black is featured in the movie and it is really great! Your gonna love it! Did you enjoy working in Vancouver & Kamloops? Do you think you would want to film up there again? Yes it was fantastic. The people were great and everyone was very supportive in Kamloops. Very fresh air and great terrain.
Yes it was fantastic not just working with Tom and Larry but also working with all the musicians who we worked with on the first Rock On, such as Tim Pierce and Josh Freeze. That made it an extra special experience. It felt like a class reunion session. Your mum was involved in several of the songs. What is it like to work with her and did she bring food to the studio? She brought food to the studio! Pasta, pasta, chicken and devilled eggs! She’s fantastic to work with but she can be pretty tough, especially on the vocal sessions, telling me I could make it better. LOL...LOL.. People may not be aware but she is a piano virtuoso and extremely gifted.
What has the response been like to the new album? Really good. Just looking on iTunes and reading the wonderful reviews people have posted. It’s had a great response. Can we expect to see any other single releases from the album and do you see yourself recording more albums in the near future? Yes I had a great time making the album. We’re not sure which will be the next single from the album. Actually I’d love for everyone to tell us what the next single should be. How about we run a poll. Help Michael pick his next single. *** Click here to place your vote at the Michael Damian Forum*** Can we expect to see you on the road anytime soon? That would be fantastic. I’m trying to get some shows put together but nothing is set just yet but it would be awesome and I’d love to perform live. What projects are you working on now or do you have in the pipeline? We’re just writing several different screenplays just now. It’s a good time , before the Flicka 2 release to get some writing done. We are currently working on a Christmas movie entitled, “Christmas at Castlebury Hall”. Would you like to work as a director/producer of a TV series or do you feel that film making is where your heart lies? I would love to work on a series if the opportunity came up. Right now I’m enjoying working on features but if something came up and it was the right time, yes I would be interested. There seems to be quite a shake up going on the Y&R recently, is there any chance that Danny Romalotti may stop by for a visit anytime soon? There’s nothing on horizon right now but I am always open to make an appearance if the timing is good with our schedules. Have you ever been asked or thought about directing an episode of Y&R? Nope.
Harry Potter. I would love to direct a Harry Potter but JK Rowling will have to write another book for that to happen. I would have liked to have directed “Speed Racer”, as a die hard fan. That would have been amazing but it didn’t happen. What are your favourite TV shows to watch at the moment? Favourite shows right now are; “So You Think You Can Dance”. I love “American Idol”, I’ve been watching the new series “Glee” and “Top Gear”. Have you ever been approached to go on Dancing with the Stars and if you were, would you do it? I have been approached but it didn’t work out with my shooting schedule. How is Bella? Bella is wonderful! She’s the sweetest thing on the planet. She’s our little baby. She’s an angel. How are your family? Everyone is well and healthy. I wish I could keep up with mum and dad they just have so much energy. I wish I could do half as much as they do. My brothers and sisters are all doing fantastic. Thank god! I’m very blessed. I would just like to thank everyone for their incredible support - Michael xoxoxox. |
